This 100% polished aluminum upper intercooler pipe is a replacement for the upper pipe that comes stock on your evo. Its three piece design eliminates many of the stock bends and rubber couplers. Through extensive parts prototyping and dyno testing programs AMS has found that replacing the upper pipe will free up a few additional horsepower. Installation is very easy and can be installed at home in less than an hour. This kit only fits the stock intake manifold. AMS has this UICP to fit the VSR manifold back in the Intercooler & Piping section.

**This item will fit the Evo VIII/IX**

*An AMS Small Battery Kit is required for the upper intercooler pipe install.

This Upper IC pipe will only work with an aftermarket intake. It will NOT WORK WITH THE STOCK AIRBOX.

AMS recommends any car that is running the factory Mas Air Flow sensor and ECU "NOT" run a VTA (vent to atmosphere) Blow off valve. For the following reason:

A Cur Running on a MAF sensor reads the amount of air being pulled into the motor via that Mass Air Flow sensor. The Evo Has the MAF Sensor on the intake pipe to the turbo and the blow off valve on the intercooler pipe. The blow off valve sits after the fact that the MAF sensor has read the volume of air. If you release this air out to the atmosphere after the MAF has read it the ECU has no way of knowing that the air is no longer there. This is the reason why from the factory that your stock BOV dumps the air back into the intake pipe so it s still present in the system. Failing to due this will cause the car to run rich every time that valve opens due to the fact that the ECU thinks its getting more air then it actually is. Typical Problems associated with this are slight bogging or loud pops between shifts and possible stalling or bogging when pushing the clutch in to come to a stop.

The reason why it works on a car that runs standalone is due to the fact that most standalone systems use Speed Density. Speed density is a system that reads the volume of air at the intake manifold. Since the blow off valve is before the intake manifold it will not alter the air volume readings of a car on speed density or a car using a MAP (Manifold absolute Pressure) Sensor on the intake manifold. This is also why you see large VTA Blow off valves on cars running a standalone like AEM EMS.
